Joe Biden’s 2021 Solar Return

Joe Biden’s solar year began at 11:31 AM EST on 19 November 2021, in Washington DC, just hours after a Lunar Eclipse with the longest duration in 580 years, which fell exactly opposed his natal Sun.  This is not a positive augur for the coming twelvemonth, and delving deeper into the details, we’re not seeing much to alleviate that.

Thankfully, at least the Moon is not void, and has entered Gemini, but still opposes the Sun, signaling a year of opposition and potential conflict, but also one which could see the fruition of long-term plans, or increased clarity with ongoing issues; health matters could also become a focus.  The 27 Scorpio Sun conjoins the Solar Return (hereafter abbreviated “SR”) Midheaven at 22 Scorpio, so no surprisingly, it’s another year in the public eye, one which places Biden front and center in career matters as well.  Exactly conjunct the MC is SR Mercury, accompanied by SR asteroid BAM.  Mercury on the MC assures that Biden’s pronouncements cannot escape notice, as the most elevated point in the chart, for good or ill.  BAM suggests an explosive year, particularly as regards Biden’s rhetoric, with the famously gaffe-prone president out on the road more frequently, selling his agenda and promoting the recently passed infrastructure bill and the “Build Back Better” package, still in doubt.  House Dems gave Biden an early birthday present when they passed their version of this on the day of his Solar Return, but the legislation now proceeds to the Senate, where the outcome is anything but assured.

That win in the Lower Chamber, and continued support from that quarter, might be reflected in a trine from SR asteroid House at 21 Libra to a pairing of SR Jupiter and SR asteroid Victoria, named for the Roman goddess of victory, both at 24 Aquarius.  That looks promising, but keep looking – also part of an exact triple conjunction at that degree is Damocles, noted as the doom or pending disaster hanging unseen overhead.  The ongoing extended conjunction of Jupiter and Damocles, active for months (the two have been within five degrees of each other since April 2021), has proven the downfall of several political figures of late, and Biden will be wrestling with this energy the entire year, even after the transiting conjunction separates in early January.

biden SR 21 card1
Joe Biden’s verbal gaffes and malapropisms are legendary, and with SR Mercury exactly on the SR Midheaven, we’re likely to be seeing more of these as the year unfolds

Biden’s issues with potential mortality for the ensuing 18 months were covered in an earlier article, but for now, we can note that the SR is rife with echoes of this possibility.  BAM exact on the MC could also indicate a highly visible assassination attempt, with BAM resonating to all forms of explosiveness, including firearms and bombs.  SR Mars, which rules assassination and guns, is just barely conjoined BAM from 13 Scorpio, and also accentuated by its angular positioning.

Further indicators of a possible violent end include SR asteroids Requiem, named for the funeral mass for the dead, and Gunn, homophone for “gun”, conjoined at 3 and 6 Virgo, in square to the Moon, representing health and the physical body; SR asteroid Nemesis at 29 Sagittarius, noted for downfall and ruin, conjoined SR TNO Ixion at 0 Capricorn, named for the first murderer in Greek myth; and SR asteroid Osiris at 0 Taurus, named for the ancient Egyptian god of the dead, in an exact T-Square with the SR Ascendant/Descendant axis at 0 Aquarius and Leo, with SR asteroid Bida (closest to Biden) at 2 Leo also in square.

General markers of mortality in the year ahead can also be seen in SR asteroid Old Joe at 25 Capricorn, conjoined SR Pluto at 24 Cap, the modern lord of death; and SR asteroid Atropos (named for the the mythic Greek Fate who severs the thread of life at death) at 18 Libra opposed SR asteroid Josephina (feminine variation of “Joseph”) at 15 Aries; this polarity is given extra weight by the fact that Josephina is at station, turning direct at that degree on December 2nd.  As well, SR asteroid Valentine (representing the heart) conjoins SR asteroid Lachesis (named for Atropos’ sister, the Fate who determines the span of life) at 14 and 15 Sagittarius, squared by SR asteroids Anubis (named for the Egyptian deity governing funerary rites) at 13 Virgo and d’Arrest (cessation) at 19 Virgo, with this pattern in semisquare and sesquiquadrate to asteroid Bida, which could suggest a fatal (Lachesis, Anubis) cardiac (Valentine) arrest (d’Arrest), commonly known as a heart attack.

biden SR 21 harris
Hand in hand, or joined at the hip? Biden and VP Kamala Harris may become inseparable this year, as denoted by SR asteroid Harris conjunct the SR Sun

That this will be a transitional year for Biden is affirmed by two additional PNAs (Personal-Named Asteroids) at station in the 2021 Solar Return.  Asteroid Bida at 2 Leo turns retrograde 5 days after the solar year begins, while SR asteroid Josefa (one of several asteroids to represent Joseph) turned direct two weeks prior at 4 Aries, and remains at that degree in the SR, indicating a literal “turning point” for Biden.

A conjunction of SR Venus at 12 Capricorn with SR asteroids NOT and Whitehouse at 14 and 15 Cap could suggest that Biden’s approval ratings continue to flag, with the administration (Whitehouse) remaining unpopular (NOT/Venus).

Political friends and foes populate the chart as well.  SR asteroid Harris at 25 Scorpio is right beside the Sun, in much the way that VP Kamala Harris is just that heartbeat away from assuming Biden’s mantle.  The conjunction, in the SR Tenth House, suggests a close working relationship, but also the possibility of friction between them, with too much togetherness.

A remarkable grouping of SR asteroids Schumi, McConnell and Nancy at 13, 16 and 18 Aquarius, all conjoined SR Saturn at 8 Aquarius, depicts the enmeshment (conjunction) of the powers-that-be in government (Saturn), with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (Schumi), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (McConnell) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Nancy) tripping over each other in the struggle to accomplish, or defeat, the administration’s agenda.  Continued hostilities and infighting between them shows in the square to SR Mars at 13 Scorpio.

biden SR 21 leaders
Three’s a crowd: PNAs for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell all lie within five degrees of each other in Biden’s Solar Return chart, also conjoined Saturn and squared Mars, virtually assuring more stress, struggle and infighting in government this year

As usual, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is odd-man-out in this power play.  SR Asteroid McCarthy at 15 Taurus conjoins SR Uranus at 12 Taurus and exactly opposes SR asteroid Jose at 15 Scorpio, with SR Mars at 13 Scorpio.  McCarthy’s antagonism (opposition) and downright hostility (Mars) to the Biden agenda (Jose), and his desire to generally upset things and provoke controversy (Uranus), is well depicted by this polarity, as is the ongoing struggle with Pelosi, as seen in McCarthy squared Nancy.  McCarthy’s position will be energized, for good or ill, by two eclipses in the coming year:  a Solar Eclipse at 10 Taurus on 30 April 2022, and a Lunar eclipse at 16 Taurus on 8 November 2022, both conjunct SR asteroid McCarthy.  In particular, the autumnal Lunar Eclipse, coming the very day of the Midterm Elections, could signal a hand-off of the gavel from Nancy Pelosi to Kevin McCarthy, should the GOP regain control of the House.

SR Asteroid House at 21 Libra conjoined SR Asteroid Washingtonia at 20 Libra, at the fulcrum of a tense T-Square with SR Pluto at 24 Capricorn and SR asteroid America at 20 Cancer, suggests that the real seat of power (Pluto) in the capital (Washingtonia) rests with the House of Representatives (House), but that the government (House, Washingtonia) is at odds with (square) the country at large (America).  SR TNO Eris at 23 Aries makes this a Grand Cross, and adds the elements of discontent, strife and discord, with a restless populace feeling slighted and spoiling for a fight.

biden SR 21 mccarthy
The man who would be Speaker – House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is represented by SR asteroid McCarthy, conjunct SR Uranus and opposed SR Mars with SR asteroid Jose, depicting his antipathy and hostility to the president, and a willingness to shake things up, regardless of the controversy involved

The administration’s potential source of downfall, self-created, is seen in SR asteroid Senator at 28 Pisces, in a T-Square with SR TNO Chaos at 29 Gemini and SR asteroid Nemesis at 29 Sagittarius.  This indicates the Senate, and specifically Democratic hold-out Joe Manchin (D-WV) (Senator) as the likely source of roadblocks (Nemesis), disunity, disorder and confusion (Chaos) as the administration tries to pass its legislation with the slimmest of majorities, where every senator holds a veto, perhaps resulting in the ruin and collapse (Nemesis) of Biden’s agenda.  Asteroid Senator widely cojoins SR Neptune at 20 Pisces, signaling the Senate as the source of disappointment and unrealistic expectations.

All in all, not the best of years for Joe Biden, with possibly devastating, potentially fatal, consequences.

Lunar Eclipse in Taurus By Sign – Change is coming

On November 19th we have a partial Lunar eclipse in Taurus. It will take around 2 years for the effects to be complete, but we should all feel a shift almost immediately, as we see the themes of the last 18 months, begin to break up and move away. It is time to move out of our comfort zones and things could feel a little out of whack for a while. This is the beginning of a more spiritual focus for all of us, but the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will feel these changes the most.

The eclipse takes place in your 1st house of self. You should be feeling quite confident now and it will be easier to make decisions. This is the time to look at your long-term goals and any new beginnings you know you must implement. You will find that you are more sensitive to the energies around you, and this could lead to some restlessness and make you somewhat impulsive. Partnerships are also highlighted here and over the next couple of years, you will experience shifts in the way that you look at them.

Your Tarot Card for this eclipse is the King of Coins. He represents maturity and success as well as stability and security. These are your themes for the next couple of years as you work towards bettering yourself and becoming more grounded, as you make the changes that will lead to your new identity. Although you generally struggle with change, you are ready now and will find it easier than in the past.

This eclipse takes place in your second house and the focus will be on emotional and financial security. You will see financial issues highlighted and could either see a raise in income or else find that you need to settle any outstanding debt. Predictability in partnerships and finances will be a strong theme for you over the next couple of years as you work towards putting yourself in a more stable position in both. Saving or investing could become more important to you now.

Your Tarot card for this eclipse is The Magician. He represents potential and willpower as well as new beginnings and opportunities. You will find that you have the resources to manifest the way you want your life to look now. You already have the knowledge and skills to create the security that you crave and over the next couple of years you will home in on one specific way to move you towards your goal. Commitment to getting what you want is the key here.

This eclipse takes place in your 3rd house. There will be a focus on communications and friendships. You could find yourself becoming more involved in your community over the next couple of years or if you have been giving lots of attention to a particular project, you will see it come to a conclusion, or voluntarily let it go. The same can be said for friendships as you let some go and see new ones come in and you will also find new ways of interacting.

Your Tarot card for this eclipse is The Wheel of Fortune, which represents change, destiny and soulmates. You may find that some of the changes are forced on you and so are not easy to deal with, but it is for your greater good and ultimately you will see that you did actually adapt quite smoothly and your social life has changed for the better.

This eclipse takes place in your 4th and the focus will be on home life and family. There could be unexpected changes which will feel unsettling, and you will find yourself trying to create more stability in this area, as you start to see that things have been up and down for a while now. Over the next couple of years you will take steps to build a home life that you are comfortable with and will likely be spending much more time with family.

Your Tarot card for this eclipse is the Two of Cups, which is about creating stable and long-term relationships both with others and with yourself. You will be building connections based on mutual respect and appreciation. When it comes to home, you will be combining wishes and talents with a significant other, to have the house and home life that will help you feel comfortable for years to come.

This eclipse takes place in your fifth house, and you may find new creative talents. You will be feeling quite sociable and will be directing your energy towards recreation, romance, and hobbies. As the worker bee of the zodiac, you will learn to relax more over the next couple of years, indulging your wants more than is usual for you. You will likely be travelling around more and getting involved in fun activities, as well as having the confidence to show off any artistic work you do.

Your Tarot card for this eclipse is the Ace of Cups. You are going to be letting go of an outdated way of being and will start to feel much more emotionally fulfilled. Whatever you are releasing now is long overdue and it is the perfect time to start afresh. Give yourself permission to put your own wants and needs first now and you will begin to feel much happier about your life and responsibilities over the next couple of years.

This eclipse takes place in your 6th house of health and daily routines. You may become aware that the way you currently live your life, is no longer working for you. You may need to take on a new health regime to keep your health tip top, or perhaps you need to make some tweaks when it comes to your working day. This is all about perfecting your routines to make them work for you, so that you don’t feel constantly overwhelmed. Focus on small things that make you feel good to begin with and build from there.

Your Tarot card for this eclipse is the Queen of Cups. She represents caring, compassion and nurturing and is suggesting that these are things you need to apply to yourself now. She also advises that should you need help with anything, you should seek it out. It is also possible that a woman with these qualities will enter your life and become a permanent fixture over the next couple of years and will be instrumental in helping you make the changes you need in your everyday life.

This eclipse takes place in your 7th house of relationships. Personal relationships will be highlighted, and any weaknesses will be shown clearly to you. You will see changes to the way your relationships are conducted now, and any unevenness will need to be dealt with, as you realise that you need to take steps towards a more middle ground. You could also become more interested in your physical appearance now and implement a significant makeover.

Your Tarot card for this eclipse is the Two of coins which is about balance. This card is highlighting areas in your relationships that are precarious, which will give you the opportunity to figure out how to make them healthier and more stable, so that they don’t just collapse. You will likely be presented with two choices and will have to find a way to decide between them, taking into account long term consequences. This also points to you perhaps needing to put more time and effort into a significant relationship so that you see the benefits in the long term.

This eclipse takes place in your 8th house and there will be a focus on joint resources. This could be financial but is as likely to be emotional too. Over the next couple of years, you will be learning to find a more middle ground when it comes to give and take. As the relationship and balance sign, you tend to go to one extreme or the other when it comes to giving and you will be learning to navigate this to make things more equal in your personal life. You may find it hard to detach at this time and that will be another learning curve for you, as you find a way to not take things so personally. You could be feeling more introverted than usual for the next while.

Your Tarot card for this eclipse is the Nine of Pentacles. This indicates that by the end of this eclipse cycle you will have reached a point of completion when it comes to your resources. You will have found a way to put your own needs on a parr with giving to others. You will also likely be much more adept at solving conflict in your relationships. Where this pertains to finances, you will come up with a plan to ensure your long-term security.

This eclipse takes place in your 9th house. You could find yourself feeling emotionally restless and will be looking for ways to switch things up and change routines in this area. This is the house of spirituality, and it is possible that you will become very involved in this, either teaching or learning. You will be looking for new experiences on many different levels and will feel that you need more independence. The next two years is about breaking out of your comfort zone, and it is possible that you could also make a change in your location or living situation and perhaps will be taking some significant trips.

Your Tarot card for this eclipse is the King of Swords. You will be building on your education and experience in one or more areas over the next couple of years. You will find that you become more aware and observant and will see and fix any issues more and more easily as time goes on. If there is opposition to the changes you are making within yourself, use logic and calm to explain yourself. Make sure to consider long term consequences in all that you do now.

This eclipse takes place in your 10th house of career and reputation. You could find yourself looking to make changes in your work life if you are dissatisfied now, or else making this area more stable. There will be a need for approval and recognition as you feel more sensitive about the way others see you. Take this time to learn how to turn any doubts about your own abilities, into an opportunity to build your confidence and shine. If you do make a change in your career path now, you will be feeling settled and capable by the end of this cycle.

Your tarot card for this eclipse is the Two of Cups and shows that you are on your way to building something solid and enduring that will enhance your life and cement your place in the world. During this time, you will learn to not be so hard on yourself and to recognise your skills and contributions. If you begin a business partnership over the next two years, it should be solid and stable.

This eclipse takes place in your 11th house. The next two years will find your social life quite busy, and you could find yourself becoming part of a new group of people. Although these people will share your vision, you will have need to express your individuality and could make quite an impact in a community situation. You feel and probably find, a new purpose and although you may feel uncertain in the beginning, your confidence will grow over time. This could be a lucky period for you as opportunity comes towards you and you realise that it is meant to be.

Your Tarot card for this eclipse is the Page of Swords. He brings you the energy to make all the changes over the next couple of years, as well as letting you know that you will have an abundance of ideas. You will be questioning everything but will also have answers for anyone who questions whether this is the right path for you. You will likely have a brilliant idea and will find all the resources to hand to help you execute it. Try to remember to allow others to put forward their own ideas and plans too, together you will come up with an amazing new project.

This eclipse takes place in your 12th house and can find yourself being quite introverted for the next couple of years. It is a time of looking inward but make sure not to indulge in any escapist behaviour. Time spent along to focus on your dreams and wishes is a good thing, as is taking the opportunity to let go of previous self-destructive behaviours. It is important to replace any negative behaviours with positive ones so that at the end of this cycle, you are ready to face the world again, with a heightened sense of confidence and ready to start new projects.

Your Tarot card for this eclipse is the Three of Cups. This signifies that you will be focusing on the past which will ultimately help you to let go of situations which have been holding your back, or at least hindering your forward movement in some way. You have possibly also been burning the candle at both ends and now you are ready to take a break from all the activity, so that you can focus on moving past previous emotional issues. By the end of this cycle, you will be ready to get back out in to the world and have some fun, but in a different, healthier and more stable way.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Taurus, November 19, 2021

Powerful energies are being generated on the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 27° 14’ Taurus on 19 November 2021, 12:58 AM PST. The energy sources are two fixed oppositions and one fixed T-square. The oppositions are the Scorpio Sun opposing the Taurus Moon, and Mars in Scorpio opposing Uranus in Taurus. The fixed T-square is composed of the Scorpio Sun and Taurus Moon both squaring Jupiter in Aquarius. The beautiful thing is all of those aspects include a harmonious outlet that may help us make good use of all this energy. The catch is the oppositions and the square are going to grab the lion’s share of our attention and we’ll have to an effort to seek out what the harmonious aspects are offering us.

In the case of the luminaries and the fixed T-square with Jupiter in Aquarius, it is Pluto in Capricorn that is trine the Taurus Moon and sextile the Scorpio Sun. With earth and water the dominate elements on this lunation, it should come as no surprise that pragmatic choices are wiser than more idealistic ones. Jupiter in Aquarius exemplifies idealistic ideas that are meant to benefit the greatest number of people in our collectives. And while these ideals are wonderful in theory, they often are out of touch with the realities of day to day life. With some judicious adjustments and emphasizing what works in real life, we can adapt Jupiter in Aquarius’s best ideas and make them happen. Mind you, we’ll probably have to make some tough calls about what to throw out and what to keep.

There is another thread featuring Mercury in Scorpio that compliments the fixed T-square with the luminaries. Mercury in Scorpio is trine Neptune in Pisces, sextile to Pluto in Capricorn and square to Jupiter in Aquarius. It is also very widely conjunct the Scorpio Sun. If we add compassion and kindness to mix (the trine to Neptune in Pisces) when we sit down to discuss our plans for improving the quality of life for our compatriots, our chances of creating something truly beneficial increases.

An interesting aspect pattern includes the rulers of Scorpio and Taurus – Mars and Venus respectively. Mars in Scorpio is sextile Venus in Capricorn and opposes Uranus in Taurus, while Venus in Capricorn is trine Uranus in Taurus. Mars opposite Uranus is hard on the nervous system and can make us more accident prone than usual. The Venus-Uranus trine is very inventive when it comes to both love and money. What must be taken into consideration is all three planets are in earth and water. Scorpio, Capricorn and Taurus are all pragmatists and will choose the option giving them the best chance of real world success. It is possible we’ll have an unexpected opportunity to make a commitment to our loved one. Or we might find the perfect home to buy, if that’s what we’re looking for.

Saturn in Aquarius is only involved on the periphery, since it makes no tight aspects. However, it is worth noting the square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus is gradually tightening and the final exact square will take place on December 23 at 11° 06’. This is one most will be glad to see the back of.

Since this Full Moon is a lunar eclipse, it does come with more caveats than usual. Be aware instant karma is strong at this time, and if we choose to ignore common sense precautions, we could feel the sting of a fast slap down. What will produce the best results is exercising compassion, kindness and being respectful of other people’s opinions. Getting caught up in being righteous and judgmental (Jupiter in Aquarius territory) is not recommended. This is a good time to follow Mercury in Scorpio’s usual tactic of thinking long and hard before sharing opinions. One final reminder about the reality of this lunation being dominated by earth and water (with only Jupiter and Saturn in air), when engaged in problem solving taking a down to earth, pragmatic approach has the best chance of success. High minded, idealistic theories may sound wonderful but won’t make the cut at this time. As always, be kind, tolerant and patient. Peace and love to all.
