New Moon in Capricorn, January 12, 2021

Yup. More Capricorn to process! On January 12, 2021 at 09:00 PM PST, the New Moon at 23° 13′ Capricorn takes place. In a chart dominated by earth, the Sun and Moon are tightly conjoined with Pluto in Capricorn. We have more serious “house cleaning” to do before we can begin making sensible plans to reach future goals. One thing to beware of is being too radical about what to clear out. Despite Pluto’s urging to do so, there is no need to go completely scorched earth on ourselves, .

Saturn is very much a key player on this New Moon, both as Capricorn’s ruler and the aspects it makes. Saturn is still conjoining Jupiter in Aquarius though Jupiter is gradually pulling away. More importantly is the waxing square to Mars in Taurus as well as Uranus in Taurus. The three exact squares between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus are the defining aspects for 2021.

Keep in mind both Jupiter and Saturn are quite comfortable in Aquarius, and in fact Saturn was the original ruler of Aquarius. The problem arises because neither Mars nor Uranus are at home in Taurus. Mars is considered in his Detriment in sluggish Taurus. While Uranus, who is dedicated to doing the unexpected, is not happy in Taurus who loves nothing more than life with as few changes as possible. Both Taurus and Aquarius are fixed signs and fixed squares tend to be intense pressure cookers because neither side is willing to budge. We can end up with sudden, explosive changes or excruciating, long drawn out stalemates. Or a combination of the two. The current squares on the New Moon are going to affect those with personal planets and/or Ascendant from 1° to7° in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius), especially if there is a natal square or opposition in fixed signs at those degrees.

There is another planet caught up in the Taurus-Aquarius mess . . . Mercury in Aquarius is square Uranus in Taurus. This aspect was exact shortly before the New Moon. Coming to an agreement is going to be very difficult. We’re now in “agree to disagree” territory, and those who need to get someone who disagrees with them to sign off on a legal matter are going to have a time of it.

Is there a bright spot in this New Moon chart? Yes. Venus in Capricorn is still trine Mars in Taurus. These two sweethearts were exactly trine on January 9 and the love still lingers. This is a great time to express our love with tangible gestures like giving heartfelt hugs, preparing favorite foods or giving a good massage. Non-verbal works better than lovely words with this earthy trine.

Neptune in Pisces is sidelined this time which is rather a shame because Neptune in Pisces is a good influence on the Capricorn planets. It reminds them why showing love and compassion is a very good thing.

Ever since Jupiter joined Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, Capricorn-Cancer lunations have been a bit rough. Now we are finally moving past that and the feeling we can begin to look to the future is growing. This New Moon in Capricorn offers us an opportunity to look back as well as forward. Nonetheless it is by cleanly releasing our past issues that make a fresh start truly possible. Now is the time to honestly evaluate ourselves and our lives in preparation for those new beginnings. Please be gentle and forgiving in the process. No sense in creating more pain and resentment to weigh us down before we even take a step on our new path. As always, remember to practice kindness and tolerance each and every day. Peace and Love to all.
