Jupiter Sextile Pluto – September 12

The Final Jupiter Sextile Pluto

Superheroes

Jupiter sextile Pluto

September 12

3:55am EDT

This is the only major aspects in 2018 and it has been going on all year. The first hit was January 15, followed by the second one April 14 and now we are at the final round on September 12.    In terms of major aspects sextiles are arguably lighter than other aspects but this one packs a punch since we have been experiencing it all year. And now this final round arrives after a hideous summer of astro energies so we are all ready for the help of Jupiter and Pluto.   There is extra juju with this final round because as we discussed Pluto and Jupiter are also working with the Sun and Moon and it arrives in the final hours of New Moon.  Jupiter & Pluto know how to get our attention.

Jupiter and Pluto are entering the scene like superheroes where they are a team with each other and helping the New Moon.  Again, Jupiter in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn will offer doorways that speak to our psyche and help us on our hero path.   Author Joseph Campbell defined the hero journey as the following:

The hero (whether he looked like one or not) hears a calling to do something.  At first glance it appears like a normal  task but then quickly it reveals to be something way more challenging.  Usually, the hero will refuse to do it but then someone tugs or someone appears (think Yoda) and says “You know you gotta to do it”. The hero takes a big sigh and agrees to the journey.  Now he is in brand new territory he is past the world that he has ever known (think Jack up the beanstalk) and in this new world a part of him must die because it does not fit in this new land, thus a transformation is taking place (Jonah in the whale, Moses up the mountain).   In this initiation period there will be tests and trials, many that are failed, people will appear some will be helpful some will not but all the time the hero has to find his inner metal.  He learns what he is made from.  As the tests continue he is no longer a person having stuff happen to him he is now on a purpose very aware what is in front of him and takes the challenges to answer this calling now awoke in him.   Once this journey is over and he has found enlightenment he does not return to the ordinary world that he left he is now on a new plane.   If he returns he is a leader and serves or he moves on with his skills to a new territory where he is prepared and confident that he will be able to handle any challenges.

That in a very small thumbnail is a hero journey. So, Why am I spending this time explaining this to you?

Well the better question to ask is have you been experiencing a Superhero journey this year and didn’t know it?   What started in January?  Was there a revisit in April?  And what has this summer been like for you?  Were you out in the woods alone in some way?  Perhaps on a strange planet like Luke Skywalker?   Now as we experience the final hit we may be well served to see it through the lens of the hero journey and realize we are on the other side or perhaps have a bit more to do on our journey but we must pick up our light saber and do the daily work.    After all this final aspect lands in the last hours of Virgo New Moon.

And like all super hero stories it is good to know the context to find the importance.   The Jupiter sextile Pluto aspect does not come up often.  There will be one hit in 2022, 2030 and 2035.   The next time we get a round of three again will be 2043.  Alas, in 2043 some of us will be old enough to be Yoda and our Luke days will be way behind us.

Make the most of this energy.

Astrology This Week

Happy Labor Day

We are in the waning moon and we should definitely be feeling the unwind of what was a tense and bumpy and very frustrating summer.

On this third quarter moon we will be focused on our communication skills accented our bravery.  It takes a lot to be brave.

At the end of the week we head to the darkest moon and we begin to release under the balsamic phase.  This is balsamic is exceptional with many aspects between September 6 and 9th.   Perhaps our last week of frustration and some pleasantries in these final days of summer.   Plus we have Saturn stationing.  “Thank you, Saturn for straightening out and flying straight.”

August 26 – Pisces Full Moon — We Need it!

Full Moon

August 26, 2018

7:58am EDT

3 Pisces 12

This has been one bumpy summer filled with eclipses, harsh aspects and of course a ton of retrograde planets including our warrior friend Mars (gawd, he is an a-hole when he is retrograde).   Luckily Mars turns direct in a couple of days and then September 6 Saturn will also straighten out and fly straight.   Launching us into a new softer terrain will be this Pisces Full Moon that is NOT an eclipse.  Remember, July 13, July 27 and August 11—were all eclipses.  How nice to just get a plain old full moon and in gentle Pisces no less.   Like an oasis in a desert we will get lost in the shade and the water.

Pisces is the final water sign and with that we tend to tie up things, especially emotional and spiritual loose ends.   It is the symbol of two fish one who is swimming right side up and the other who is swimming up side down.    Of course, it would be so nice if we only got the fish who swims right side up, as it makes charting a course easier but Pisces knows he needs his little brother upside down fish to help with his guidance.   How is it possible that goofy confused fish helps with direction?  Because that fish has to get quiet and feel his way through any current.  He has to go to the area that cannot be defined by logic or facts.  He goes somewhere unworldly for his guidance and right side up fish listens to him.    Thus, intuition is pronounced on a Pisces full moon.   Creativity is also a guiding force.   So many famous artist have a strong Pisces in their chart.  They see or turn into something we mortals cannot even grasp.   Pisces can tune into brilliance.   Yep, that’s what those little fish can find.     The negative spin on Pisces is the feeling of loss and confusion and martyrdom.  That’s when confused fish is not getting quiet.   Even if it comes up remember under all that crazy victim stuff you will find empowerment if you get quiet and recognize, “I am here because I want to be here.”   Even if you don’t want to be doing something or be somewhere the power comes when you acknowledge that you and your maker agreed you would do it. Own that karma or dharma and swim on.

A little mediation will go far this full moon along with yoga and gentle practices.   Gardening, nurturing, being kind to others and of course going to a place of faith are all perfect for this full moon.  Can you feel how the Universe is preparing us for a new terrain after summer with this full moon?

There is a beautiful aspect between Uranus and Saturn with both the sun and the moon.   The accent on responsibility and dutifulness is highlighted.   But it is not drudgery.   We will talk more about our daily schedule and how it connects up with our values in two weeks when we discuss the Virgo New Moon.  However with the Saturn aspect on the Pisces full moon we get a little heads up.  Are we doing or does our schedule reflect our values?  Take a look at this three -day full moon and see if you are in sync or out of sync with your values?  Uranus will provide some lightening bolts and brilliant ideas that can help as we figure out how to get our life more in sync with what we really think is important.

Bottom line:  this is a lovely moon and arguably we all need it.  Find your quiet zone and just keep swimming.

Mars Stations Direct August 27 —Glory Be, Glory Be

Mars Station Direct

August 27

10:04am EDT

28 Cap 36

Starting May 12thwhen Mars entered its shadow, messages may have appeared that our actions towards the greater good and actions that help our career could be ‘off’.   Were there blinking red lights?   Perhaps but then on June 26 Mars retrograded and we all had to slow down because grumpy Mars hates going backwards.   Obstacles appeared in our path and people seemed to block us.   How we handle these blocks has been a learning curve and probably a lot of us got snippy snappy.   Now on August 27 Mars turns direct.

We should feel relief immediately.   A breakthrough or a connection may appear and we finally feel like we are moving forward. Because this Mars retrograde involves Aquarius and Capricorn a lot of the blocks involve our place in the world.   Our friends, our groups, our career, our government, our systems which may have been off or just a ton of work.

Now as Mars unwinds we see our place in the whole process.  Remember it is turning direct in the Leo Lunar Cycle so we are served to ask ourselves, “How was I strong when I hit an obstacle?”  “How was I brave and honest with my community?” “How was I a leader even when it was hard?”   Some of you may do a victory lap others may need to take time and process the last eight weeks of Mars retrograde.  After Mars turns direct on August 27thwe will again do actions that will support our career and how we are seen in the public.  On September 10thMars will returns to Aquarius and between then and October 8th(Mars leaves shadow) we will revisit friends, groups and associations and take actions that put us in sync with like -minded folks who bring out our best.   And like a big old Leo cat we may purr again.

This Weekend & Week in Astrology

Yes—you heard it here first.  Mercury will be turning direct.   I kid you not.

After Mercury turns direct we should feel a lot of relief as things start to right themselves again.  Plus we have a series of nice aspects during Gibbous that put the emphasis in a pleasant manner on change reform, out of the blue and structure and responsibility. Together we say “amen.”

Uranus Retrograde

August 7 12:49pm EDT

Uranus station retrograde 2 Taurus 33

Dates:

May 15, 2018 Uranus enters Taurus

August 7, 2018 Uranus station retrograde 2 Taurus 34

November 6 Uranus returns to Aries

January 6 Uranus stations direct 28 Aries 35

March 6 Uranus returns to Taurus where it will remain until April 26, 2026

So, are five planets retrograde leaving you with the feeling of wanting more?  Oh, good because on August 7 we get one more planet retrograde:  Uranus.  Six is the charm!

Uranus spends around forty percent of every year retrograde so at first blush this is no big deal.   But this retrograde is a wee bit more profound in that it is the first retrograde since Uranus moved into Taurus (May) and it is going to back to our dear friend and warrior Aries.

Uranus retrograde can be a bit chaotic in general but when it goes back into Aries it may remind some of us that we left a soldier on the field.    Since 2011 when Uranus began to transit through Aries we learned the value of self- motivation, personal identity and relying on ‘self’ for our future.   It does not mean we don’t have spouses or family or friends or coworkers it is more about what does “Self” need and want and where is it heading?

And just for clarity Uranus rules technology and the fact that “The Selfie” originated during this period was not lost on any astrologer.   Anyway, now with Uranus retrograde back into Aries one last time and we may realize there is one area left that needs our Self directed energy.  Perhaps we have been careless and have put someone else in charge of our happiness.   Or perhaps we have found out that there is someone not on board with our future as we thought or planned.   Whatever it is, we have from November until March to figure out where we need to put “I” back in our life.  And then on March 6 we go back to the task at hand and build something from the ground up in a way Taurus respects.  No short cuts, we do it bit by bit.

Adding note:

And the juju of this particular Uranus retrograde has a wee bit more electricity than other retros—Uranus return to Aries on the day of  the Midterm Elections in the USA.
What starts off in the morning will get on fire around 2pm EST.

Aquarius Lunar Eclipse. Wow.

Full Moon

July 27, 2018

4:20pm EDT

Lunar Eclipse

4 Aquarius 44

The full moon in Aquarius is not just a full moon it is also the longest lunar eclipse of the 21stcentury.   It will last 1 hour and 43 minutes.

That’s an attention grabber, right?

Observers in Africa, the Middle East, southern Asia and Indian Ocean will see a red blood moon (more brown red) that will take from beginning to end four hours.  (Thank you, Space.com  for those details).

On the run up to the full moon we have the following:

7/20 Mars conjunct South Node

7/25 Sun square Uranus

7/26 Mercury station retrograde

7/26 Sun oppose Mars

…and just after full moon

8/1 Mars square Uranus.

This is not an easy week.   If you have ever skied consider this a mountain of moguls.  How are you going to use the energy of the mogul? Will you take the bump and turn it into a jet for momentum?   Or will your skis get stuck and you rage yourself off the bump?

As I have indicated the last time Mars retrograded in Aquarius was 1971 & 1939.  We don’t get this experience that often and one can argue, “Thank God.”    The Mars retrograde cycle is from June 26 – August 27.  For the bulk of this period, June 26-August 12 Mars will be in Aquarius.  Aquarius is how we unite with others not on an intimate level but on a global or cause level. It can be something simple like cleaning up trash on a block, making over a church basement or more complex issues like working together to change a law.   Aquarius is not coming together to just complain that’s not elevated enough.  It is about minds coming together and saying, “What are we going to do?”  Aquarius is the brainstorm.   Aquarius is brilliant.

During this period of Mars retrograde we have already begun either finding our groups of like- minded or we may have begun processing our own resistance to group activity.    But now with the longest lunar eclipse of  the century on this full moon in Aquarius during the middle of Mars retro in Aquarius —-the time has come to heal our own issues around groups and causes and being with elevated like-minded.

Let’s talk about the obvious reasons for resistance to group activity.

Well, history has shown a lot of groups get shit wrong.   How about that Nazi party in the 1930s and 40’s?  And other groups who supported Fascists?   How about the KKK?  How about mob mentality in the near and distant past?  How about lynching of innocent people?     Yep, groups get it wrong all the time.    However, a lot of groups get it right.   From something like Habitat for Humanity or ACLU and charities or whole neighborhoods who come together and improve a lot or put in a community garden.  Some get it right.

With this lunar eclipse we have Moon in Aquarius which is cool as a cucumber and can be very strategic, think in old fashion TV terms: Mr. Spock.   Uranus in the chart wants to shake things up so finding our inner Spock will be hard.   Then there is  the Leo sun on the other side who is passionate, at times sloppy but still speaks to our courage, think:  Captain Kirk.  The war of rational and rash will be in full display no doubt.

On the eclipse we may start to process where have we been hiding in plain sight.   Where have we been letting others do a lot of the work?   What needs our attention that will help the community?   Are we feeling out of sync with our heart that says, “I really need to do more?”  What is going on with your community?   Is it your block, your neighborhood, your county, your country?  How about your community school or park or library?   Where are you not showing up and more to the point how is not showing up starting to bug you?

Leo sun speaks to all of us to find our strength and courage and do our part in our community by following our heart.   If we use our heart as our beacon we will know where we need to show up.    We must always check in with the heart and if something feels off within a group we can express it and maybe move on to another group.

Because the eclipse is a shadow we need to talk about the Achilles heel for both Aquarius and Leo and that is an attitude of above it all.   —  Aquarius can be a rebel without a cause and do it his way or the high way.   Which is very off  putting. And Leo disconnects because he feels he’s not being treated special.   More off putting.   And both can be know-it-alls.   Off putting squared.

Another Achilles Heel is our own prejudice about community and the power of high functioning like-minded individuals who come together.     This is one of the sad areas of astrology.   Of the 12 signs of the zodiac the energy of Aquarius can be marginalized more than the other signs in my opinion.   For example, no one would ever marginalize Cancer’s domain of Family. Or Libra’s domain of relationship.  Or Scorpio with sex and bank loans or Taurus for owning land— But Aquarius who says “Hey everybody let’s come together and do this _______” ,  that energy is marginalized all the time.    People say:   “I’m too busy.  I can’t make a difference.”  Which is code for community is not as important as money, love, family, sex, debt, education, property, etc.     To that I laugh.   Lose power for a week.  Suffer a natural disaster.   Watch a local school start to break down.   Watch a law go into effect that hurts your friends.    Or hurts you.   Then ask yourself if community is still not important.

In summery:

We have a lot going on this week including this full moon.   As we discussed on the New Moon, which was a partial solar eclipse in Cancer we are in a run of 3 eclipses in a row and this Aquarius lunar eclipse is the second then in two weeks we will have the Leo Solar eclipse.   Between now and then we will have a lot of bumps and lots of things will get our attention.   Including this full moon where we find our community no matter how small or how large. Activate that part of your psyche that says, “I deserve to work with others and experience the joy of bringing my unique voice.”  We are all waiting for you inner Spock and inner Kirk to be beamed up.

Make the eclipse work for you.

Mercury Retograde in Leo

Mercury Retrograde

July 26 1:02am  EDT

Dates:

July 7: Shadow begins

July 26 retrograde 23 Leo 27

August 18 direct 11 Leo 31

Sept 1: Leaves shadow

And here is that special time in the astro world where we announce, “Ladies and Gentlemen, we are back to having 5 planets retrograde.”  We dropped down to 4 planets retro after Jupiter turned direct two weeks ago but now we get his nosy little friend Mercury turning retrograde in the sign Leo.

So, let’s make this easy.  Leo is not subtle.  Leo is loud.  Leo wants to tell the truth unless it makes him look bad.   But the bravest Leo around knows that a willingness to own their mistakes and their character flaws and still do the right thing makes them attractive and natural leaders.  What will we do when Mercury retrogrades in Leo?  Last summer we had two days of Mercury retrograde in Leo, most of the three weeks were spent in Virgo.    As annoying as last summer’s retrograde was this one might be a tinge tougher.   Last year we were inclined to beat up self.  This time people will really tick us off especially if they step on our pride.   There will be the usual miscommunications and mayhem around technology and yes someone didn’t write your name down for something important.   On the day of the station retrograde (and therefore an influence on the 3 week period), Mercury is in a tight square with Uranus.   Unexpected issues and fumbles could cost us both time and money and we may want to fight hard and have someone pay for it.   Given this Mercury retrograde spends two thirds of its time in the Cancer lunar phase we will be called upon to explore our emotions when we hit stumbling blocks.   Do we collapse?   Or do we gather our resources and persevere like a real leader?   How strong is our self- esteem?   Remember self- esteem is not the same as ego.     Like all Mercury retrogrades we will do the best we can but remember this one is pushing for people to stand up and be leaders in their homes, communities and perhaps work.  Watch and see if between now and August 8 (when it turns direct) if you don’t come across a bump that brings out your fearlessness and you grow leaps and bounds.

Right at the beginning, this Mercury retrograde is also being given a gift of anAquarius Lunar eclipse which also activates its opposite sign Leo calling upon us to find our strength.  There’s that word again.    Roar.

Mars & Nodes July 20

As we discussed last cycle, Mars retrogrades every couple of years and at the end of June Mars the warrior stationed retrograde in the sign of Aquarius.  This is the first time it has retrograded in Aquarius since the summer of 1971 and before that the summer of 1939.   Okie dokie.

In his journey, Mars can go over the nodes every year or so (both conjunct & oppose) but this is a particular interesting time since Mars retrograde is right in the hot spot of the lunar nodes and he drives over them three times.  The nodes speak (broad strokes) to karma and dharma.  Skills we have to access because it is part of our life purpose and behaviors we need to jettison because it is our life burden.   Obviously, the nodes in our natal chart have the most meaning to us personally.  But the transiting nodes are also important and can churn up stuff both personally and globally.    This summer Mars will be driving over the nodes like some kind of crazed Viking. The first hit was June 8thso you can think back if anything came up around the first pass.  The second hit is July 20thand the final time is September 26.  So much of the angst of this aspect speaks to people who are either with their tribe or not with their tribe— and are they with people who inspire them?   It is not enough to be connected on low energy—think complainers who like to be with complainers that is not the lesson of south node in Aquarius.  Watching the young soccer players caught in the cave in Thailand has been an allegory of Mars on South Node in Aquarius.   The fraternity, the unusual circumstance and more to the point large groups (again Aquarius) coming together in heroic ways to rescue (Leo). We all are cheering them along from all over the world.

We probably should expect some cult news to pop up in this cycle which is not a superior use of the Aquarius energy.   Personally, it is more important to be connected with people that bring out the best in you (NN Leo) and you share with them not from ego but more like you are sharing food with friends.   “Hey I have this thought, action, inspiration that you might like.”   With Mars retro we may realize we are sharing with people who don’t care or don’t get what makes us special.  So then what do we do?    Perhaps it is time to expand your circle?   Say Yes to something you would normally say NO.   Watch what comes up around the 20thand see if you get informed about your circles or lack of them or if you are not being understood in your group.    See how much you learn between June 8 and September 26 when it finishes its Viking-ness on the nodes.
