Happy New Year! Hooray – 2020 is over and we’re moving into a brand new year.
Before you charge head long into 2021, there’s some wrapping up to do. This is because your planet Venus enters Capricorn on the 8th where it remains until the end of the month.
Capricorn is a fellow earth sign and rules travel and study in your horoscope, the bigger picture. Venus moving here is encouraging you to hold on to your dreams, to envision the future you want for yourself, to keep hold of hope and faith.
Yet, some plans will have come to an end first. This may be on or around the New Moon on the 13th which also falls in Capricorn. New Moons are a symbol of new beginnings but this New Moon falls next to Pluto, the planet of loss & transformation.
Things come to an end under Pluto’s gaze and doors close. Consider which plans to let go of as you move forward – there may be clues along the way on the 5th and 28th.
Yet, this really is a ‘new’ year for you and a time to embrace change and look to the future. Talk planet Mercury enters Aquarius, the star sign of the moment, on the 8th and is followed by the Sun’s move into Aquarius on the 19th.
Aquarius rules your career and vocation, your status and reputation. It’s the star sign at the peak of your horoscope linked to your future path, your next steps. Aquarius rules technology and all things modern and this is an ideal month to consider how you can embrace future trends.
You could move a business online, set up a website or commit to a course of online study. You might be out and about within society, helping others and being committed to your beliefs, your values and your desire to bring about change.
For some of you, this will be evident already as you have Uranus, the planet of change and reinvention, currently in your star sign Taurus. In fact, Uranus has been here since 2018.
Plus, this month, on the 6th, action planet Mars joins Uranus in your star sign. Mars will be powering up your personal sector for the next couple of months.
This is turbo-powered activist planetary energy. Even though you are a fixed earth sign and renowned for being stubborn, this isn’t a month to stay put or refuse change.
You’ll notice this most for you personally on the 14th when Uranus turns direct, on the 17th when there’s a freedom-loving Jupiter-Uranus square aspect and on the 20th when Mars and Uranus unite.
The latter date is impulsive and not great for physical risk-taking. Yet, you are going to feel fired up this month and ready for action.
For some of you, this is about a new chapter in your personal life with more freedom and time for you. For others, it’s about engaging with society and helping to bring about change in a positive way.
Jupiter is wafting its magic wand on the 11th and 29th. Notice what new opportunities come your way. And, the Full Moon on the 28th is a stand-out date for making a clear decision about your next steps.
Relationships could play their part as both Venus and Mars, the lovers of the heavens move into earth signs early in the month and unite on the 9th. Together you’re stronger and this applies to all your connections.
At times, you’ll fall out with others, perhaps because you feel so strongly about what’s important. Yet, you may be the one leading the way and taking a controversial or future-oriented leading role.
Note that Mercury turns retrograde on the 30th, the last day of January. Therefore, it’s not a month to ease slowly into 2021. What you put in place early this year could set you up in a good way for the rest of the year.
Happy New Year! Hooray – 2020 is over and we’re moving into a brand new year.
You’re wise to crack on with things fast this year. Firstly, this is because your planet Mercury turns retrograde on the 30th, the last day of the month. Mercury will remain on go slow for most of February.
Secondly, your planet Mercury is buzzing along in tune with the times. As January and a new year begins, Mercury is in earth sign Capricorn, where all the major planetary activity took place in 2020.
Mercury’s only here for a few days until the 8th but encounters Pluto on the 5th. These two key planets meet in Capricorn and your joint finance sector. Pluto is the planet of loss and transformation and you may need to make some final decisions around money matters early on this year.
This is also the theme of the New Moon on the 13th which takes place in Capricorn and pulls in Pluto. Tough decisions may be required and a new beginning can only emerge from something that’s coming to an end. That’s Pluto’s nature – think of the phoenix rising from the ashes.
Yet, by the time of the New Moon, Mercury is already chasing ahead into Aquarius, the star sign of the moment. Mercury moves here on the 8th and will remain in Aquarius until mid-March.
Whereas Capricorn represents tradition, the establishment, things that are set in stone, Aquarius represents the future, technology and all things modern.
Mercury’s move into Aquarius is urging you to turn your attention to the future and build on new plans and dreams. It really does feel as if you’re closing the door on 2020 and you’re ready to embrace more freedom in your life.
Jupiter is the planet linked to hope and faith and moved into Aquarius at the end of December. The big planet is thought of as being lucky and fortuitous, representing opportunity and growth. Your planet Mercury teams up with Jupiter on the 11th and there’s a Sun-Jupiter conjunction on the 29th.
Both these dates are important for planning ahead and envisioning what next. Aquarius rules travel and study in your horoscope, the bigger picture of life. It’s a good month to fire some arrows high into the sky and see where they land later in the year.
Consider signing up for a course, learn new skills online, increase your knowledge or find out more about a religion or spiritual path, a philosophy or belief system.
There will be times when you doubt where you’re heading or you sense a crisis of faith. This may kick in for you from the 13th to 17th. Alternatively, you could be caring for someone close who’s vulnerable or scared.
A Leap of Faith
This month’s astrology does require a leap of faith, a boldness, a belief that after the darkness comes the light. The Full Moon on the 28th is a special Full Moon this month and ties in to this theme.
Use the clarity of the moon to listen to your intuition and if you’re ready to slow down or take a step back, do what feels right.
You may be considering emigrating or moving elsewhere and this too fits January’s theme for you. You will need to take stock in February especially if events move quickly this month. For now, however, the stars are encouraging you to line up and work towards future plans.
Happy New Year! Hooray – 2020 is over and we’re moving into a brand new year.
As you enter into a new year, you may realise how important other people are in your life. Both the Sun and talk planet Mercury are in Capricorn and your relationship sector as January gets underway. Mercury remains here until the 8th and the Sun for longer, until the 19th.
Plus, on the 8th, love planet Venus enters Capricorn and lights up this sector of your horoscope until the end of the month. This is a gorgeous symbol for love and relationships and appreciating the ones you’re with.
It’s not always been an easy time for your close relationships and power planet Pluto remains here for some time.
Yet, you may sense that love is strong in your life, whether this is because you feel close to people you’ve lost or who’ve passed on. Or, because you’re making an effort to see the positives in a long-term relationship or with the people you encounter on a daily basis. This is what Venus is encouraging you to do.
Some relationships, however, could end under these star, especially if you’re caught up in a power dynamic that’s not good for you. This may relate to a personal or professional partnership. The key dates in this respect are the 5th and 28th, also the New Moon in Capricorn on the 13th.
A New Moon promises new beginnings but this New Moon encounters Pluto, so any new beginnings can only grow out of an ending or something final. Nonetheless, it remains a good date to set your intentions, especially when it comes to a partnership, business venture or intimate relationship.
It’s also a month when you’re wise to get practical and pay attention to the logistics of life. This may mean dealing with money matters, perhaps linked to a legal issue. Aquarius is the star sign of the moment and rules joint finances in your horoscope. Saturn’s here – the authorities – and so is Jupiter – legal matters.
There are some lucky dates this month and it’s a good time to try and free yourself from financial ties or restrictions that hold you back. Jupiter teams up with talk planet Mercury in Aquarius on the 11th and the Sun on the 29th. Both dates are stand-out dates for money, contracts and negotiations.
Plus, on the 28th, there’s a Full Moon cutting across the Leo/Aquarius axis of the zodiac and your money sectors. Use this Full Moon to make a clear decision about money. For some of you, this may mean stopping a payment or minimising expenses. Do what you know is right and hopefully it feels right too.
On the last day of January, Mercury turns retrograde in Aquarius and will remain on go slow for most of February. Another reason why you’re wise to crack on with money issues sooner rather than later. Mercury retrograde often indicates you’re playing a waiting game.
Fast & Furious Friendship
Friends are a key part of your month’s astrology and it’s here where there’s fast and furious action. Mars enters Taurus and your friendship sector on the 6th and joins up with rebel planet Uranus on the 20th. You might be protesting along with other people or feel fired up by a friend’s enthusiasm.
Freedom is a key feature of this sector of your horoscope, so bear this in mind, both financially and emotionally.
The Jupiter-Uranus square aspect on the 17th shows where you’ll be rebelling or where you’ll be fighting for freedom. This might be with regard to world events. Or, perhaps you’re on a personal crusade to ensure you keep hold of your rights.
Jupiter is the biggest planet in the universe and the best planet in astrology. The big planet represents opportunity, growth, expansion & freedom and is the planet of hope, trust & faith. Wherever you find Jupiter in your horoscope, this is where you can embrace life to the full.
This week, Jupiter is on the move. The big planet takes 12 years to circuit the zodiac which means it spends approximately 1 year in each star sign.
Jupiter Leaves Capricorn
For the last twelve months, Jupiter has been in earth sign, Capricorn, its sign of fall. There was always a suspicion that the planet of optimism and joy wouldn’t get on too well in the sign of work and discipline, especially as Capricorn has a reputation for viewing the glass half empty!
Plus, Jupiter had to contend with Pluto in Capricorn too. Perhaps you were one of the lucky ones and had extraordinary luck and your finances were boosted astronomically. Or, you managed to break free from a situation or tie that was holding you back.
At the very least, 2020 will have been a year of reassessment, if not downright difficult.
One of the biggest challenges this year has been keeping hold of hope and faith. This was always going to be tricky as Jupiter represents optimism & positive vibes, whereas Capricorn sometimes only sees the obstacles in your path limiting possibility.
Jupiter Enters Aquarius
Therefore, it’s got to be good news that Jupiter is changing star sign and moving into air sign Aquarius. Jupiter’s not alone in Aquarius as Saturn moved in on December 17th. Jupiter in Aquarius promises hope, freedom, a social conscience & technological advancements.
Jupiter wants to move away from the world of governments and big business (Capricorn) to embrace people, socialising and community ventures (Aquarius).
Jupiter in Aquarius symbolises the eccentric, the person who likes to stand out from the crowd. At the same time, Jupiter in Aquarius wants to find and fit in with the right tribe. Any opportunity to bring people together for a worthy cause or celebration is Jupiter in Aquarius’ dream.
This is an inclusive Jupiter, keen to become involved with people in all walks of life, to unite different races, cultures and backgrounds.
Freedom of speech is a significant part of Jupiter in Aquarius’ role. The famous triad of ‘liberty, equality and fraternity’ fits the planet of benevolence, Jupiter, in the star sign of the collective, Aquarius.
Whatever you get involved in when Jupiter moves through Aquarius, ensure it’s for principled reasons, whether you become a revolutionary or rebel or you make the right kind of leader or manager.
Jupiter In 2021
Also heartening is the fact that Jupiter is strong in the first two months of 2021. In 2020, there were no Sun-Jupiter or Venus-Jupiter conjunctions, traditionally lucky dates. Or, at least, dates when opportunity & possibility beckon.
In 2021, Jupiter makes a conjunction with Mercury 3 times on January 11, February 14, March 5, the Sun on January 29 and Venus on February 11. Plus, there’s a Jupiter-Uranus square aspect – freedom! – on January 17.
Even though Jupiter whizzes through Aquarius in just over four months, you’re going to know what the big planet means for you in the sign of the collective early in the year.
2021 is split into three distinct chapters with Jupiter in Aquarius up until May 14 and again from July 28. In the middle of the year, Jupiter returns to its sign of rulership, Pisces, when it gains strength to equal Saturn’s dominance first in Capricorn & then Aquarius. We’re in for an interesting and exciting ride in the coming year.

Get your telescope, your binoculars and your eyes at the ready – the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in the night sky will be the closest conjunction of these two great planets for a long, long time – 800 years. In fact, they may look like a double planet.
The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction heralds a new age. This major planetary conjunction takes place once every 20 years and has always been an important symbol of the times, giving a flavour of the subsequent 20 years. In whichever star sign the conjunction falls, this gives you an idea of what’s coming and which areas of life are foreground.
In traditional astrology and before the discovery of Uranus, Neptune & Pluto, the two planets, Jupiter & Saturn, were the most significant and visible in the night sky. The furthest planets away from the Sun – Jupiter the biggest planet and Saturn the planet delineating the boundary of the universe.
In mythology, they were both leaders of the Gods, Saturn representing the old order and Jupiter representing the new order. In fact, it’s thought that the Star of Bethlehem was an exceptionally bright Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in approximately 7BC, heralding a new king, leader and era. These are truly important planets.
The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction on December 21, 2020 is even more momentous because it’s a ‘Mutation Conjunction’. This means that for the last 200 years, the Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions have fallen primarily in earth signs, Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn, but that is starting to change.
The last Jupiter-Saturn conjunction took place in Taurus in May 2000, the star sign ruling money & consumerism (its flip side being greed).
Also, the star sign ruling nature and earth’s abundance. What we produce and grow, how we tend to the earth and the money markets have all been key areas of development in the last twenty years.
Take that back even further, 200 years further back, and the movement of the Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions into earth signs coincided with the Industrial Revolution. It’s been a 200 year era of production, manufacturing, excavating the very material that forms our earth.
The New Air Era
So, this is the start of 200 years when the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction will fall in the air signs, Gemini, Libra & Aquarius. We already have some inkling of what this is going to be about.
Firstly, there’s often one Jupiter-Saturn conjunction that’s rogue and leads the way. Think back to 1980 and there was a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Libra, giving us some idea of what to expect about the new ‘air’ era.
The element Air rules ideas, the sharing of information, networks, social connections, communications and technology. The World Wide Web (WWW) began in 1989 during this first Jupiter-Saturn 20 year era in an air sign. Since then, social media, cell-phones and global connections have exploded into our world.
2020 has given us even more of a clue about what this new era will entail. The information superhighways have taken over from physical travel. Real jobs are now taking place on Zoom and other virtual software. Many skills that used to be done by humans are being replaced by robots and automation.
Space too is opening up with more countries investing in space travel – the ultimate ‘air’ adventure. Air represents breath too, so maybe we will be learning to live with new viruses over the next 200 years that are air-borne. We’re entering a new age.
The new ‘air’ era promises change to the collective at a political, social, humanitarian and environmental level. More likely than not, some of the changes taking place will need to be radical. Everyone may have to be less self-oriented and more concerned about what’s best for the whole.
Jupiter & Saturn – Working Together
Jupiter & Saturn encourage us to focus on the future (Jupiter) and use the best of the past (Saturn). The fact that they unite at 0 degrees Aquarius on the Winter Solstice leading us in to 2021 feels revelatory. If you have key planets/angles close to 0 degrees Aquarius, then you too are on the verge of something special.
Jupiter is the planet of expansion. Jupiter is linked to joy (the term jovial derives from Jove, another name for Jupiter) and brings good fortune, opportunity and growth.
Saturn is the planet of limitation. If Jupiter is Yes, then Saturn is No. From Saturn comes the word saturnine, meaning a gloomy disposition. Saturn is the planet of realism, boundaries and hard work.
These two planets are opposite in nature. Ultimately, this is the battle between faith (Jupiter) and fear (Saturn). Yet, Jupiter can learn from Saturn’s discipline and ‘get real’ mentality and Saturn can learn from Jupiter’s desire to take risks and think big. When they are working together, this is the optimistic realist, the practical visionary.
This is going to be a truly exciting time for science, space travel, New Age thinkers, social activists, pioneering leaders, inventors, visionaries, rebels and innovators.
Planets in Aquarius urge you to ‘embrace your weird’ and not worry about being conventional or fitting in to the norm. The main focus is on the collective and social issues and creating a better world for everyone.
Over the coming week, I’ll be posting more articles about Saturn & Jupiter moving into Aquarius and what it means for you from a star sign perspective.
The week begins with a New Moon Solar Eclipse, a symbol of a powerful new beginning. However, eclipse new beginnings often stem from an ending.
Sagittarius is the star sign linked to travel & foreign connections and it’s not exactly a year when travel is on the cards for many of us. If you want an example of what’s being eclipsed, listen out for announcements about travel restrictions close to the eclipse date.
That’s one way that eclipses can play out but a New Moon eclipse can also open a portal and coincide with a significant turning point. See what opportunities open up or where you’re willing to be bold & brave in your life. Here are some key pointers to guide you:
Eclipses are often concurrent with turning points. This is why they are considered game-changers as they move the goalposts of life. Fundamentally, eclipses are neither positive nor negative. It’s how you perceive and respond to what happens in your own life and out in the world that’s important.
Sometimes, eclipses act as a catalyst for change but you don’t recognise this until later on. Their effect can last a few months after the exact date of the eclipse, even up until the next set of eclipses, which will occur in May/June 2021. This eclipse is paired with the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on November 30, 2020 which fell at 8 Gemini. What completed or ended two weeks ago may have been the catalyst for a new beginning.
Traditionally, it’s wise to wait a few days after an eclipse before taking action or making a big decision. During an eclipse, the karmic nodes, points of destiny in astrology, are pulled into the cosmic dance of the Sun, Moon & Earth. A shadow is thrown as the Sun/Moon/Earth are in close alignment. This is why eclipse symbolism is said to be ‘shadowy’. Once the shadow clears, it brings what’s hidden to light or sheds a new perspective on a current situation.
A Solar Eclipse is a turbo-charged New Moon, a symbol of new beginnings. However, the beginning often comes into being from an ending as the light emerges from the dark. The eclipse can open a door or a portal in your life inviting you to step through. Pay close attention to the events that occur and listen out for synchronicities around this powerful eclipse.
This Solar Eclipse is part of the eclipse cycle which began in June 2020 and completes in December 2021. Notice where you’re being called to move forward or required to start over.
This eclipse could be a time when you can act fast and spontaneously to get things done. This is because action planet Mars in Aries makes a close trine aspect to the Sun & Moon in Sagittarius during the eclipse. This feels dynamic and go-getting and could be great news for the fire signs, Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. You may be leaping into action before the week’s out.
The ruling planet of the eclipse in Sagittarius is Jupiter. On the day of the eclipse, December 14th, Venus and Jupiter align in a sextile aspect – Venus in Scorpio, Jupiter in Capricorn. This is a promising connection for love & money and may benefit these two star signs in particular.
The eclipse will be visible primarily in South America and parts of South Africa. It will be ‘eclipsed’, i.e. hidden from most of the world.
What It Means For You
On a personal level, see where the Solar Eclipse falls in your birth chart, which house and which area of life, it triggers. Does the eclipse fall close to any specific planets/angles? – use a tight orb, 1 degree either side. Here’s a quick guide – read your Sun sign & Ascendant sign:
Sagittarius – personal goals, image & identity
Capricorn – your inner world, retreat & surrender
Aquarius – friends, groups & wider society
Pisces– career & status, future path
Aries – your place in the world, study & education
This promises to be a huge month for you as the epic Jupiter-Saturn conjunction falls at 0 degrees Aquarius on the 21st. This is the start of a new era, a new astrological wave and it has your name written all over it.
Firstly, however, the emphasis is on the star sign Sagittarius, up until the 21st, the day of the Solstice and the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction. The Sun is here until the 21st and talk planet Mercury is in Sagittarius from the 1st to the 20th.
This sector of your horoscope rules your friends and group activities and this is a good time of year to be more social, even if that means online. You are one of the air signs after all and people and connections are important to you.
Also, there’s a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Gemini on the 14th. This follows on from the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on November 30th. Both eclipses are linked to social events, groups and your place within society.
This is part of an eclipse cycle that began in June 2020 and completes in July 2020. Eclipses often coincide with the unexpected and they tend to bring what’s hidden to light. They’re neither good nor bad but they do shift the dynamics and change things around.
You could leave a group on or around the 14th or be caught up in a dramatic situation regarding a friend. Yet, the New Moon eclipse is great for new opportunities coming your way.
Notice who turns up in your life on or around this date. This could be the start of a great new friendship or the beginning of a new passion that’s linked to your role within society and the collective.
Focus on your hopes and wishes this month and keep your eyes firmly focused on your future goals. Dream big and back this up with a solid plan. This is the key theme of the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction.
Jupiter represents growth and opportunity, your dreams and vision. Whereas, your ruling planet Saturn knows how to work hard, draw up the business plan and turn dreams into reality.
Jupiter takes approximately twelve years to circuit the zodiac so think back twelve years, the previous time that Jupiter was in your star sign Aquarius.
This can be a lucky planetary transit when you find yourself in the right place at the right time. Or, you’re ready to put challenging times or personal issues behind you and embrace a new future.
When Jupiter’s in full flow, you want to see the world and save the world. Jupiter rules travel, education, spirituality, philosophy and philanthropic activities. Jupiter rewards bold behaviour and loves the free spirit, the explorer, the entrepreneur, the lover of life.
Jupiter rules truth and justice so be true to your beliefs, live life to the full and make the most of this exciting astrology. And, with your planet Saturn closely connected to Jupiter, this requires balance and an ability to plan for the future, to take the necessary steps so you reach your chosen goal.
When planets are in your star sign, the focus is on your image and profile, your body and well-being, your personal goals and aims. Aquarius, your star sign, rules the collective, the society we live in and at its best favours equality, collaboration and community ventures. Everyone matters in Aquarius’ humanitarian, ethical realm.
You may be stepping into a leadership role or feel more passionate about making a difference out in the world. You might have encountered an experience this year that reminds you that life is short and to embrace all of life when have the opportunity.
Retreat & Freedom
This major conjunction coincides with the Sun and Mercury moving into Capricorn and both planets team up with your co-ruler Uranus. The key dates are the 25th & 28th.
This combination promises freedom, putting the past behind you and letting go in some way so you can move on. This might be linked to your home and family or the place you live.
It’s a good time of year to hibernate or take time out, to be quiet and still. Throughout December, you’re advised to balance more social times with time for yourself.
You may sense that you’re on the verge of a big year in your own life. Slow things down first before you leap into action. Ensure you prepare yourself well.
