Spring gets off to a dynamic start today!

The day begins with the almost-full Moon making her way through the last decan of earthy and practical Virgo, forming a fast-moving Grand Trine with Saturn and Pluto in ambitious Capricorn, and with Mars in steadfast Taurus. The Moon in Virgo answers to Mercury, who is currently retrograde in watery Pisces but receiving a steadying boost from stable Saturn.

One could accomplish a great deal of productive and detailed work this morning. Tie up any loose ends before 11:22 AM EDT when the Moon goes void on a square to over-the-top Jupiter.

This well-supported Moon is conjunct my own Virgo Moon, prompting me to the practical action of reviving my writing practice. Finally!

The Sun enters Aries at 5:58 PM EDT, marking the official beginning of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the start of the zodiacal year.

The waxing Moon serenely drifts until she enters Libra at 9:28 PM EDT and reaches exact opposition to the Aries Sun at 9:43 PM EDT, illuminating the third and final Super Moon of 2019.

This Moon is also the first of two Libra Full Moons this month, with the next one happening at the very end of Libra on April 19th. These bookend Moons here at the Spring Equinox place a strong emphasis on the Aries/Libra axis and the issue of balance in our relationships.

Venus, our planet of love and relationship, is the ruler of Libra. Mars, the planet of me-first and divisiveness, is the ruler of Aries. These two seeming opposites are moving into a square with one another, a challenging aspect which can test some partnerships.

Venus is currently in Aquarius and thus feeling a bit aloof and independent. She’s also getting a great affirmation from Jupiter in freedom-loving Sagittarius. Mars is moving through Venus’ other home-sign of Taurus and thus is answering to her. He is feeling more grounded than usual and less inclined toward breaking off relations.

Use the light of this Libra Full Moon to peer into the workings of your relationships. Do you have enough freedom and autonomy? Do you feel grounded and stable in your partnerships? How do you achieve a balance of your own needs against the needs of others? Move forward into the new cycle of the zodiac with the awareness gained from the illumination of balance.

The Leo full moon/lunar eclipse happened last night just after midnight EST. Did you see it? I was sound asleep at totality, but before I went to bed, the snow-clouds cleared enough that I saw the gorgeous big moon. All the fresh powder (18”+ here!) glowed lunar-blue in the bright moonlight.

That light was dimmed by Earth’s shadow but then emerged again to re-illuminate the landscape, and some part of your birth chart as well. Something stands revealed in a corresponding area of your life. Pay attention over the next couple of days to anything that shows up for you, something that was there all along but now you see it in a new light.

Early this morning, make-it-happen Mars faced a challenge from slow-it-down Saturn. You may encounter frustrating delays in your headlong forward motion today. Mars can be pretty rash and impulsive. Saturn brings a measure of restraint, which is not always the worst thing. Slow down and breathe deep. Use the time to reflect on the wisdom of that action you were about to take, then proceed with caution.

Venus is moving into conjunction with Jupiter, exact early Tuesday at 7:26 AM EST. Astrologers consider this meeting to be one of the most fortuitous of all astrological configurations, but because Jupiter is in his home sign of Sagittarius, the expansive and hopeful qualities are enhanced.

During the evening, the Leo Moon will form a fleeting Fire Grand Trine with Mars and Venus/Jupiter. However, Saturn places a restraining hand on Mars while a challenge from confusing Neptune has Venus and Jupiter a bit befuddled. This mashup could translate into BIG passion, romance, and commitment. Or it could result in cold feet and deception. Or some combination thereof. Be aware that not all is as it seems.

The bright, waxing Moon rests in her cozy home-nest of Cancer for much of the day. In spite of this comfort, you may be feeling off-kilter as the Sun is still engaged in a challenge from Uranus, while Mercury is striving to escape the clutches of powerful Pluto. Do what you can to nurture your family, your pets, your houseplants, but your Self most especially.

The restlessness increases as the Moon and Mars tussle while afternoon wanes. Each of these is strong in their home sign, so neither is willing to compromise at all. Now is an excellent time to take action on matters of the heart. Stand up for yourself, family, or tribe if necessary. Burn off any excess energy with hard physical exertion, or it can boil up as anger.

As the Sun goes down, the Moon is moving into opposition with stern Saturn. Relationship tension can arise early this evening. The mood is cold and heavy but will pass as the Moon engages in a fluid exchange with Neptune, enhancing kindness, imagination, and creativity in the late evening. Inspiration is available for music, poetry, dance, and painting. Or allow yourself to drift off to sleep and enter the land of dreams.

Are you having trouble focusing on your work today? I certainly am. I have a long list of tasks to do, but I keep drifting off into la-la land and having to haul my head back into place.

You can thank the Pisces Moon for the fogginess. If you have lots of Pisces in your chart, you may feel right at home. The rest of us might be feeling a bit dreamy and wishing for a nap.

The Moon enters into a supportive angle with Saturn after lunch, which may help you finish out the work day with a bit more discipline. By late afternoon, the already-emotional Pisces Moon could go over-the-top as she encounters a challenge from expansive Jupiter. Offer a shoulder to someone who needs a good cry.

This evening is perfect for relaxing as the Moon joins with Neptune in his native ocean realm. Have a glass of wine. Take a hot bath with scented oils, watch an epic fantasy film, or compose a poem or song. Let yourself drift on creative currents and enjoy a long night’s sleep.

The Moon is moving unaspected through eccentric Aquarius for the rest of the day, which is fun because we’re free to be as uninhibited and quirky as we care to be.

Venus entered happy-go-lucky Sagittarius yesterday where she will hang with jolly Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius, for the rest of January. Our sense of what we find beautiful takes on an adventurous tone, jiving with today’s Aquarius Moon. You may feel like expanding your horizons a bit this month.

BUT — kind of a big but — Mercury in sobersided Capricorn is squabbling with Mars in impulsive Aries today. Mars is casting a particularly impatient vibe, while Mercury is uncharacteristically severe. So while you may want to sit down and get some focused work done, you feel like you have ants in your pants. It may be best to do some physical labor today or at least use the stairs a few times. Try not to bite off anyone’s head in the meantime.

Mercury moves briskly through the final degrees of Sagittarius today, all the while engaged in a dialog with Uranus, the Great Awakener. Uranus is currently standing still in the last degrees of Aries, preparing to move forward into Taurus. He will leave Aries on March 6th, not to return for 84 years.

What house does Aries occupy in your chart? Uranus entered Aries in Spring of 2011 and spent seven years waking you up regarding that area of your life. For example, if Aries occupies your seventh house of relationships, likely you’ve had some big realizations or shake-ups around important partnerships in your life.

Today Mercury is interviewing Uranus about what went on over the last seven years. Your mind is open to insight, to seeing things in a new light. You may receive some cosmic downloads, some exciting news, or a big aha to close out this era.

At the same time, the Sun is chatting with Neptune, enhancing our intuitive and psychic abilities. Meditation and dreamwork can help you absorb any flashes of understanding.

Midday, the waning balsamic Moon travels for a brief time with Mercury, joining in the conversation with Uranus, helping you to process emotionally and to let go of whatever needs to go. Then the mood shifts as the Moon enters Capricorn at 1:55 PM EST. She tangles with fiery Mars in Aries in the early evening, setting us up for a night best spent in productive solo activities.

And finally, ending a busy astrological day, Mercury finishes up with Uranus and follows the Moon into Capricorn at 10:40 PM EST. Here Mercury can help you get your thinking in order and to set goals to put in motion at the Capricorn New Moon tomorrow.
