The first lunation of 2019 has quite a cardinal punch to it with Saturn and Pluto conjoining the New Moon Solar Eclipse at 15° 25′ Capricorn on 5 January 2019, 05:28 PM PST. As long as we color within the lines and follow the rules, this is terrific energy for outlining goals for the coming year.
The key to working with Capricorn and Saturn is to behave with maturity. Whining, procrastinating or throwing temper tantrums will not be rewarded. We need to accept the need for delayed gratification and plan accordingly. This New Moon in Capricorn is a great opportunity to practice goal setting with all the necessary steps we need to take to reach those. Thankfully, Neptune in Pisces is sextile the Capricorn luminaries and Saturn which softens Capricorn’s more hard nose approach. If we’re willing to admit we’ve made a mistake and learn from it, we’ll should be able to make good progress.
The tendency to strike out verbally is high now due to a Mercury-Mars square in the cardinal signs. Mercury is now in controlled Capricorn and Mars is at home in fiery Aries. This is a high energy, volatile aspect, prone to causing forceful, cutting remarks when tempers flare. Rather than being drawn into unending arguments with others, it is better to work alone on challenging personal projects.
Venus is poised to leave Scorpio for more upbeat Sagittarius on Monday, January 7, but before she does she faces an inconjunct with Uranus in Aries. Aries-Scorpio standoffs do not often end well and this time it is Venus who will suffer the most. Venus in fixed Scorpio likes consistency in relationships and when her partner starts acting out and behaving erratically, the situation can deteriorate quickly. Sometimes a little forewarning about the need for more space can help.
Now that Jupiter is at home in Sagittarius, his influence expands accordingly. At this time he faces off with Neptune in Pisces and Saturn in Capricorn. All three planets are well placed in the signs they rule which makes for an interesting situation. On this New Moon, all three planets are aspecting one another (Saturn is semi-sextile Jupiter and sextile Neptune). The combined influence of Saturn and Neptune dampens Jupiter’s natural enthusiasm, hopefully reducing the amount of irrational exuberance going around. The best outcome is one where we’ll take a positive attitude about putting in the work needed to reach our goals without getting caught up in unrealistic expectations.
Remember there are five planets in Capricorn – the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Saturn and Pluto. Saturn and Pluto are on either side of the luminaries who draw both planets into a loose stellium in Capricorn. It’s time to take a focused, sensible approach to problem solving. Cardinal Capricorn excels at organizing and executing plans of action, something most of us need in our lives. Saturn will help set realistic goals and Pluto is there to provide motivation to pare those down to the bone. Like or not, we’ll need to practice delayed gratification and frugality.
Make the most of this amazing New Moon Solar Eclipse in Capricorn to patiently work towards realizing your dreams!
