Most of us are grateful this New Moon Solar Eclipse at 18° 42′ Leo on 11 August 2018, 02:58 AM PDT is the final one in this summer’s series of three eclipses. It packs a punch too and maintaining a sense of proportion is going to be especially challenging.
It is the Leo luminaries and Mercury in Leo who are the center of the storm. Jupiter in Scorpio squares the Leo Sun, Moon and Mercury, fueling the drama Leo so loves. And the luminaries plus Mercury are the apex of a Yod with Neptune in Pisces sextile Pluto in Capricorn as the base. The dissonance created by the Yod may very likely bring out the worst side of Leo, and that can jeopardize relationships of all types. So we’ll need to do our best to keep egos in check and concentrate on being humble, caring and open to other people’s thoughts and feelings. Both Neptune in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn prefer to avoid the limelight and work quietly behind the scenes to accomplish their goals. Neither of them are going to appreciate having to deal with loud, boastful Leo types either, no matter how important they think they are.
Venus in Libra is in a delicate position on this lunation. She enjoys a trine to retrograde Mars in Aquarius while taking a hit from a square to stuffy Saturn in Capricorn. Mars in Aquarius want Venus to explore unconventional options when it comes to love; at the same time Saturn is telling her to follow the rules. It doesn’t help that Mars in Aquarius is squared by eccentric Uranus in Taurus, bringing out his kinky side. Also urging Venus to take a chance on playing outside of her usual sandbox is an inconjunct to Uranus in Taurus. Yes, Venus in Libra is under siege now. Knowing Libra’s tendency to dither when under pressure, my guess is nothing may happen at all because Venus in Libra can’t make up her mind.
There are two ongoing trines at work in the background sending out soothing vibes in water and earth. The Jupiter in Scorpio-Neptune in Pisces trine represents the water signs and has a positive influence on our emotions, encouraging us to choose the caring, compassionate option. Representing the earth signs is the dynamic trine between Saturn in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus. If we need to find a practical solution by thinking sideways, this trine’s subtle guidance can make it happen with surprisingly positive results.
This is not the best time to push ahead with our plans. In part because eclipses usually give us so much to process, we won’t have enough time or energy to do much more than work through the issues already on our plates. One way to avoid getting caught up in ego-driven games or prideful boosting is to become reacquainted with our inner child and live in the moment. Leo New Moons are usually wonderfully creative times and this New Moon Solar Eclipse can be too. Be joyous and dance playfully to the music within. Love and peace to all.
