Summer Solstice at Stone Henge
Sun enters Cancer/
Moon in Cancer
Planetary ruler for Wednesday-
Mercury
Happy Birthday:
1909- Errol Flynn,
1931- Olympia Dukakis, 1931- Martin Landau, 1942- Brian Wilson, 1946- Bob Vila,
1949- Lionel Richie, 1952- John Goodman, 1953- Cyndi Lauper,
Today marks the Summer Solstice, the longest day and
amount of sunlight, in the entire year. The sun will move into the sensitive water
sign of Cancer ruled by the moon. This is a big turning point after
all of the activity, eclipse and two new moons in Gemini, where we found a lot of information about our surroundings
and a whirlwind of social activity. We will find our attention shifting towards
our family life, residence, and matters of nurturing (eating, sleeping, sense
of belonging), which are all ruled by the moon and the fourth house of the zodiac. This is the area of the natal chart
that rules our mothers and how we express and receive nurturance. The cusp of
this house is known as the Imum Coeli
and is an angular house located at
the very bottom of our charts; it is the most private part of the chart. The IC is one of the four cardinal points, the others being the Mid-Heaven, or MC (the top and the most
public point), the Ascendant, better
known as the rising sign and the Descendant. These points are the most
sensitive and planetary aspects that affect them to them are very important and
augur major life changes.
We are in the midst of an amazing
amount of astrological activity. The Uranus (rebellion)/ Pluto (transformation)
will make the first of seven exact squares
(tension) that are sure to bring about revolutions of political and social
change. On June 24th Saturn
(gravity, restriction) will finally go direct in Libra (relationships) on the 25th and head towards the
sign of Scorpio (transformation). We
will experience the benefits and consequences of decisions we have made for the
past two years concerning our relationships to others in love and social
circumstances. Mars, (expression of
aggression) will finally move out the sign of Virgo after a particularly long
transit of eight months and three retrograde
periods. This will stimulate the sign of Libra
even further and we could see a lot of breakups and divorces as a result. Venus, the planet of pleasure, will go
direct after spending six weeks retrograde in Gemini. We may want to “live it up”, but we should watch out for
expanding waistlines, hangovers, and high credit card balances, which are
consequences of “overdoing” the fun and pleasurable things in life.
This is an excellent time to
review our natal charts and the current transits that affect us all.  The fourth house, ruled by Cancer, and currently housing the sun,
and the seventh house, ruled by Libra, and currently housing Saturn,(both angular houses) will offer important
clues to what is in store next for us and those close to us, during these
turbulent times. This summer is going to have a lot to offer, but we must
remain flexible and open to the challenges that it brings in our personal lives
and on a global scale.
