Sun enters Gemini/
Moon enters Gemini
New Moon in Gemini
Solar Eclipse in
Gemini
This is a big day that brings
many changes to the astrological weather. The sun/ new moon enter Gemini. The last
placement, Taurus was very steady, practical energy (earth) whereas Gemini’s
energy (air) is a bit more unstable. Being the sign of the twins, Gemini can go
either way often changing directions without warning. Gemini energy is very
flexible and can switch gears in a second. In the tarot Gemini’s power is
symbolized by the Trump card 6, usually seen in most decks as the” Lovers” and
is equated with the Hebrew letter Zain, which translates to “double edged sword”.
While the “Lovers” can mean union and harmony between people and different
energy paths, if negatively dignified by surrounding cards, it can also denote “double-mindedness”
and doubt, lack of trust, etc. The same
goes for Gemini in the zodiac which rules the 3rd house of
interperonal communication, siblings and basic elementary education, – i.e. local
“folklore” and gossip. If all is well in this sector of the natal or transit
chart, we see cooperation and harmony in our neighborhood and day to day lives.
If there are negative aspects or planetary conflict in the 3rd house
or the house that Gemini occupies we will have issues with communication,
trust, cooperation, and understanding of basic information.
Gemini’s opposite in the zodiac
is Sagittarius and the 9th house. In the 3rd house we
rely on what we have been told- our friends, neighbors, early education. The 9th
house represents higher education, philosophy and global communication. So if
you are “told” something when we are younger, say that certain cultures or practices
(prejudices) are evil when we are young we are blank slates and will accept those
ideas because it makes us feel included and part of the group.
It will hit us hard, big time
when we grow up and learn from our own inner wisdom or higher learning
(college, reading and thinking for ourselves, mixing with people of other cultures,
or long distance travel) that these statements are not true. It can make us
feel “separate” from the groups and culture that we were raised in once we are
exposed to the truth.
I have a neighbor (very fitting for
Gemini) who is a lovely young woman and was raised very sheltered in a very
tight knit, religious (pseudo-religious, she found out later) community where
higher learning and “big ideas” were not valued. She was very intelligent, and despite
all of her family and friends’ protests took the opportunity (9th
house) that a full scholarship brought her. Her close ties(3rd
house) wanted her to remain close to home (3rd house), but the world
was calling and she went abroad(9th house) to find her true self and
further her education. She quickly found that what she was told (3rd
house- Gemini) at home, especially that people of other races, creeds and
cultures were evil and bound for everlasting hell-fire, was simply not true.
She not only learned this from her schooling, but believed it (9th
house) by the empirical evidence of her new day to day life in the “real world”.
When she returned home for visits she could sense the “separateness” between herself
and her former ties. She no longer felt at home. She was also ostracized by her
former peer group for having her eyes wide open and was also told she was going
to hell for having a Hindu roommate at school!*?*?*! The lesson here is, don’t
believe everything that you are told, and that there are consequences, however
ridiculous, for not following along with your roots.
We will all have to deal with
this 3/9th house dichotomy within the next 6 months because this
solar eclipse is going to bring these issues out in the open. The severity of
it depends on how well you have dealt with these issues in the past, and what
your personal natal points and planets are. For some, the integration of what
they are told and what they believe will be very easy. For others, it is going
to be rough. I know that for me it has already started. My current state, North
Carolina (not my home state) has recently passed legislation to make gay
marriage illegal. I could care less what others do in their bedrooms, and have
no idea why anyone else would either), but if they are doing this on religious and
pseudo moral grounds, what’s next? I like to think of myself as open-minded,
but swayed to the right in politics, until now, because I wanted to keep my
money and my guns (personal protection and love of fire power- Scorpio-Sun
Aries-Mars, I am don’t want to hurt anyone, but don’t anyone to hurt me and
mine either) but as an astrologer (who by the way, looks to the Judeo-Christian
bibles for validation for astrology), they could come for me next. Also, as a
bookseller/ bibliophile, I am very concerned about the recent stands that some
of my ultra-conservative neighbors have taken on what kind of literature/
information is allowed in schools and libraries. So basically, I have to change
my affiliations, possibly my residence and my child’s elementary school education (all 3rd
house/ Gemini themes) because of small minded bigots that used to be my friends
and helpful neighbors in order to be “right” with my our “higher purpose and
power”.
In order to stabilize our practical, everyday
routines will help to create balance at this time. Balance is the major theme
of Libra who is currently hosting Saturn (reality/gravity). This eclipse is
making a nice trine to this position. This gives a lot of hope and confidence
that the higher wisdom (9th house) of the cosmos will help us out of
this mess. Stay informed (3rd house) and have faith (9th
house) and we will see in the next 6 months where we end up, hopefully in
perfect balance with each other, but that remains to be seen. We first have to
integrate the beliefs of our communities before we can open ourselves and our
nation to global consciousness.
