Note: With this article, we begin a two-part series on the significance of Neptune’s entry into the sign of Pisces, where it will remain for the next 14 years. First, let me offer a positive vision of what this may mean and then follow up with a bit of caution in the next newsletter.
It isn’t every day or even every decade that a slow-moving outer planet like Neptune changes signs. When it does, major shifts occur, usually signaling a new era. For example, Pluto changed signs from expansive Sagittarius to prudent Capricorn in 2008 and within months we got a dose of limitation with the stock market fall.
What does Neptune’s sign change portend for us?
Outer planets represent energies that are universally felt. Neptune specifically influences the prevailing collective unconscious as seen through culture and art.
Since January 1998, when Neptune entered Aquarius, we have seen the explosion of the Internet and the proliferation of hand-held gadgets that have increased access to information and our connection to all of humanity.
As of Friday, February 3, Neptune began its 14-year journey through Pisces, its home sign. Our collective attention will now be focused on spirituality, creativity, imagination, idealism, intuition, and compassion. Look for a growing awareness of the need for personal inner peace and an increased awareness of our Oneness with all of life. There will also be those who escape into addictions and find other ways to deny reality.
The last time Neptune was in Pisces (1847-62), we saw the birth of modern spiritualism, the creation of the Ouija board, the development of hypnotism, the discovery of ether, the sensualizing of art with the Pre-Raphaelite Movement, the compassionate flowering of the Abolitionist movement, and the dreaming of riches in the California Gold Rush.
I’d like to share my thoughts about what Neptune’s movement may mean personally for those of us who are already spiritually aware.
You may find greater intuitive abilities and even psychic experiences happening. Even those who have never considered themselves intuitive, may become surprised by happenings they cannot explain. If this happens for you, you can become scared and question your sanity or you can recognize it as the offering of a glimpse into a greater reality. Could it be the gift of spiritual guidance for your life?
I have for a long while lived by the words of Shakespeare in Hamlet, “There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” Staying open to a greater reality while grounded on Earth will be extremely important in the coming years.
You may become more aware of other dimensions of your own being. The veil between dimensions may become more porous so that you are not only aware of your physical body, emotions, and mind, but also your energetic body, “light” body, and more. Our awareness will grow beyond the four or even five dimension we know about.
Art, music, dance, and many other forms of creative expression will find greater emphasis. If you are an artist, you could find your style becoming softer and more ethereal; or, if you haven’t considered yourself an artist, you could discover a desire for creative expression in some new way.
Compassionate causes will arise to right the wrongs in the world. Whoever has been disenfranchised or side-lined for any reason will hold our attention. As the spirit of oneness arises, the suffering of others will be experienced as our suffering. How might you contribute? What touches your heart?
Clearly, the emotional maturity of humanity needs to grow for society to become more caring. Neptune in Pisces can enhance our empathy, increase our awareness of our oneness with all life, and open us to the presence of the Divine in every moment.
Yet, this is best expressed when we stay spiritually open, ready to stretch compassionately to serve other’s needs and grounded in the reality of whatever is happening in every moment.
